BiographyBorn in Dresden, Peter Rösel - the son of a conductor and a singer - had his first piano lessons at the age of six. He completed a five-year-study at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with Dmitri Bashkirov and Lev Oborin. He was the first German to win a prize at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition and the Montreal Piano Competition, which helped him launch an international career that has taken him to music centers all around the world. Mr. Rösel’s performances at international festivals such as Salzburg, the London Proms, Edinburgh, Hollywood Bowl, Perth, and Hong Kong were enthusiastically acclaimed by audiences and newspapers alike. Throughout the years he has been a welcomed guest at major orchestras such as the New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Detroit Symphonies, the Royal Philharmonic, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg as well as the Netherland Philharmonic. Along with Kurt Masur and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Peter Rösel has performed more than 200 times on the international stage. It was Kurt Masur who invited him to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in celebration of the New York Philharmonic’s 150th anniversary. Peter Rösel has also produced a large number of CDs including recordings that feature repertory such as the piano concerti by Schumann (with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig under Kurt Masur), by Beethoven and Rachmaninoff (with the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester under Kurt Sanderling and Claus-Peter Flor respectively). Recordings of solo piano work by Brahms up to chamber music in many different combinations complete the broad repertoire of this pianist who is one of the most renowned representatives of his generation. In the 2004-05 season Peter Rösel gave concerts with the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg, the Göttinger Symphonie Orchester, the Orchester des Opernhauses Halle and the MDR-Sinfonieorchester. He was also the guest again of the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Gewandhaus Leipzig and on the occasion of the Strauss Festival 2005, Mr. Rösel performed the “Burleske” with the Sächsische Staatskapelle. At the Dresdner Musikfestspiele 2005, he was the “carte blanche” guest of honor, where he once again demonstrated his extraordinary versatility in various concerts there. Highlights for the 2005-06 season included concerts under Kurt Masur, the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle under Heribert Esser, the Toledo Symphony Orchestra under Stefan Sanderling, the Dresdner Philharmonic under Dmitrij Kitajenko and his performance of Benjamin Britten's Piano Concerto with the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg. In future seasons Peter Rösel will again be the guest of the Florida Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Seoul, the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle, and the Staatskapelle Dresden.
