Biography

Michael Heim was born in a small Austrian town and grew up in Thüringen. He began his career with operettas and musicals, but lately has been singing operas and concerts.

Following his musical studies, Mr. Heim worked for several years as a journalist and editor in west Austria. In addition to his voice training, he was already invited to participate in numerous concerts at national and international festivals. He was co-founder and vice president of the West Austrian Musical Company.

The International Richard Wagner Society granted him a scholarship for his longstanding activity as soloist in the Feldkirch Cathedral. His professors include Professor Habib Samadzadeh from Hohenems, Nicolai Gedda from Geneva, and Francisco Araiza from Zurich.

During the last five years, Michael Heim has enjoyed a close collaboration with the Liechtenstein pianist Jean Lemaire, who has over the years also collaborated with talents such as Dame Margaret Price, Francisco Araiza, Uwe Heilmann, and Peter Schreier.

His first roles on stage took place in 1998 at the Theatre St. Gallen and included the First Prisoner in Fidelio.

Since 1990 Michael Heim has been a freelance lyrical tenor, appearing at the Wiener Kammeroper (Cosi fan tutte), Schubertiade Feldkirch (Schwanengesang), theatres in Flensburg (Cosi fan tutte), Giessen (Haydn, L’infedelta delusa), Salzburg, Hamburg, the Brucknerhaus in Linz, and the State Operetta in Dresden.

Other recent career highlights include his collaborations with Kurt Masur, Mozart’s Requiem with Manfred Honeck, a Schubert recital with Jörg Demus, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Haydn’s “The Creation” with Christoph Eberle, and Britten’s The Little Sweep with Kyrill Petrenko.

In February 2005 he sang in concert Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solennelle” with the Dresden Philharmonic, under the direction of conductor Peter Schreier.
